Clubs Vermillion Lions Club
The Vermillion Lions Club held a dinner meeting on Thursday, Feb. 7, at the VFW that was presided over by Lion Bijay Naik. A round of applause and a chorus of "Happy Birthday to You" was the response to the announcement that Lion Don Mitchell's 88th birthday was on Feb. 8. Lion Bijay Naik gave a summary of the Lions Club convention that he and Lion Charles Estee attended in Brookings in January. Also, the club recognize Lion Marion Kryger for his time and efforts in volunteering to help the residents at the nursing home.
Lion Mick Breske introduced his wife, Cheryl, who was the speaker for the evening. Cheryl gave a history and overview of the Human Services Center that is located in Yankton. She focused on adolescents that are admitted and described some of their challenges and needs.
The club's Board of Directors will meet at 7 a.m. on Feb. 14 at the Senior Citizens Center. The next dinner meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Feb. 21 with a presentation on the Civic Council.
Senior Citizens Center
Our lovely winter weather continues, so 46 card players, 20 pitch, four pinochle and 20 bridge had an afternoon honing their skills Wednesday, Feb. 6. Two guests from Ponca, NE, joined us.
Winners in bridge were Ernie Miller, first; Margaret Waltner, second; Leona Kryger, third; Sarah Brown, blind bogie; and Luceal Liffengren, low.
Glennis and Jack Stewart furnished refreshments.

Theta Omega of ESA
Theta Omega met at the home of Bernadette Reasoner on Wednesday, Feb. 6. The education was on Argentina. Silvia Ronco, a native Argentinean, spoke on her country and provided a wonderful insight into that area.
The distribution of our year's funds was discussed. Treasurer, Pat Pravecek determined that our group had $900 for distribution to the cause(s) we chose. It was approved to have $450 each donated to the Kyle and Nichole Hanson and the Kurt and Susan Hackemer family who recently had babies born with medical issues. Alexander Hanson's check will be presented to him at his benefit auction at the Buffalo Run Winery on Feb. 24.
A special thank you was given to Julie Heine for hosting our Silly Supper. It was a fun-filled night and money was raised for St. Jude's hospital.
The Beautiful Pet Contest was deferred until the March meeting. A tentative time period for this event is April 25 through 27.
Barb Campbell reported back on the Tour of Tables in Winner that was held on Feb. 2. Julie and Janice also attended this event with her. Barb wants to hold this fundraiser at a later time in Vermillion.
Installation of the 2002-2003 officers is set for March. The slate of officers is as follows:
President Becky Rider, Past President Sally Schmitz, Vice-President Lois Nygaard, Secretary Lynne Day, Treasurer Pat Pravecek and Educational, Kami Dibley and Jennifer Pike.
The next meeting will be held at the home of Julie Heine on Wednesday, March 13.
Burbank Feeders 4-H
The Burbank Feeders 4-H meeting was called to order by Harrison Hawley on Feb. 10. Election of officers was the first order of business followed by old and new business. Treats were provided by O'Connors and the meeting was adjourned by Harrison Hawley
