Edelen places second in racquetball tourney Jarrod Edelen, lifelong resident of Vermillion, 1998 graduate of Vermillion High School and currently a USD senior majoring in computer science and economics, played in his fourth Four Wall Brawl racquetball tournament in Sioux City Feb. 9.
In the opening match he defeated Chris Wurtz of Elk Point 6-15, 15-14 and 11-7 (Chris is a student at arch-rival SDSU) in the Men's C Singles bracket. In the next round he defeated Tafi Lorensen of Sioux City 15-7, 5-15 and 11-8.
In the championship match he was defeated by Jason Franco of Sioux City 7-15, 15-12 and 11-8 in an extremely hard-fought match that lasted almost an hour.
He also played in the B/C doubles bracket with his dad, Joe. In the first round they defeated McLean and Reitnier of Omaha 15-8, 11-15 and 11-7. In the second round they were defeated by Alfson and McGuire of Sioux Falls 11-15 and 4-15 in the semi-final round.
Edelen is currently a kicker and punter on the USD Coyote's football team and while at VHS ran track, wrestled, played basketball, baseball, soccer and won honors as a member of the Tanager football team as a running back and a kicker.
