South Dakota competes at USD Hy-Vee Open The University of South Dakota men's and women's track and field team hosted the USD Hy-Vee open on Saturday, Jan. 26, at the DakotaDome. The meet featured teams form Mount Marty, Dana, Cowley County Community College, Wayne State, Midland Lutheran, Dordt, Dakota State, Dakota Wesleyan and Nebraska-Omaha.
The winner for the South Dakota women was freshman Amanda Dykstra, who won the 60-meter dash in :8-04. Junior Jill Kurtenbach tied with Nebraska-Omaha's Marietta Harrison for second in the pole vault (9-08). Freshman Rainie Goedken was fourth in the shot put with a mark of 39-02.25.
In the women's one-mile run, junior Cara Hamilton was second (5:34.87) behind former Iowas all-American Renea Doyle-Kruze (5:08.48,) running unattached.
South Dakota's women's 4×400 relay team (Kurtenbach; freshman Monica Miller; freshman Amber Stoltenburg and freshman Melissa Rhinehart was second in 4:10.69.
Senior Mandi Muller competing unattached, won the women's shot put with a 43-06.50 mark. Muller also was second in the weight throw (51-11).
For the men's team, freshman Pat Colleran was second in the 800-meter run (1:58.54), while freshman Bret Fransen finished third in the one-mile run (4:33.3). Senior Erik VanLaecken running unattached, won the 400-meter dash in :51.22.
