Tanager freshmen fall to Bucks 50-37 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers were defeated by the Yankton Bucks 50-37 in freshman boys� basketball Jan. 24 at home.
Yankton stayed undefeated at 10-0.
�Our team wasn�t ready to play against a superior Yankton freshman contingent,� said Vermillion freshmen Coach Mark Iverson. �Before we woke up, we were too far behind to catch up.�
The loss was aided by the Tanagers committing 23 turnovers.
The game was knotted 7-7 after the first quarter, the Tanagers trailed 24-18 at halftime, and then trailed 40-25 going into the fourth quarter.
The Vermillion freshmen season mark fell to 4-3.
The Vermillion freshmen hit 3 of 4 three-point tries and sank 4 of 15 free throw tries. The Tanagers sank 15 of 30 field goal attempts, while Yankton was 21 of 52 from the field. Yankton sank 3 of 8 three-point attempts and hit 5 of 8 from the line.
