Tanager freshmen top Alcester-Hudson by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers topped the Alcester-Hudson Cubs 38-27 in boys� basketball Jan. 21 at home as the winners led after each quarter.

Jason Donald scored six points, grabbed seven rebounds and made three steals.

The Tanagers led 10-8 after the opening period, went into the locker room up 17-10 at halftime, and then led 22-16 going into the fourth quarter.

�Our team had an off night and we played to their level,� said Vermillion freshmen coach Mark Iverson.

The Vermillion freshmen improved their record to 6-2, while Alcester-Hudson dropped to 2-6.

The Vermillion freshmen hit 0 of 5 three-point attempts and sank 8 of 17 free throw attempts. The Tanagers connected on 15 of 38 from the field, while Alcester-Hudson was 11 of 35 from the field. Alcester-Hudson connected on 0 of 4 three-point attempts and hit 5 of 12 free throw attempts.

Several significant individual efforts contributed to the win.

�Jason Donald had a good game on the boards,� coach Iverson said.
