See next's week Plain Talk for a full report of the game. by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers downed the Douglas Patriots 54-43 in boys� varsity basketball Feb. 1 at home as the winners led after each quarter.
Jon Brooks scored 12 points, stole the ball twice and made three assists. Jeff Brevick scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Tanagers took the lead 14-9 after the first quarter, and margins of 14-8 and 16-8 in the second and third quarters boosted the lead to 44-25 going into the final period.
�We played a good all-around basketball game,� said Vermillion varsity Coach Jason Huska. �Defensively we played good help man-to-man. Offensively we got good shots and we made them. Everyone got to play and contribute and I was pleased with that. Good win for us!�
Vermillion varsity improved its record to 7-5, while Douglas dropped to 9-4.
Vermillion varsity sank 3 of 5 three-point attempts and made 9 of 12 from the line. The Tanagers made 21 of 38 from the field, while Douglas was 18 of 42 from the field. Douglas sank 4 of 9 three-point attempts and connected on 3 of 6 from the line.
