USD track athletes qualify Nine members of The University of South Dakota Track & Field team qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships with strong performances at the Minnesota Gold Country Classic on Saturday, Jan. 26.
The men's 4×400-meter relay ran a 3:13.75, the fastest time this year in Division II, to automatically qualify for nationals. The relay, consisting of sophomore Ronnie McDougle, senior Tom Green, senior John Kehoe, and junior Ryan Finley set a South Dakota indoor record for a 200-meter track, on March 13-16 in Boston, MA. The split times for the relay were McDougle, :48.3; Green, :48.7; Kehoe, :48.8; and Finley, :47.2.
Green provisionally qualified for the national meet in the 60-meter dash, running a :6.77 to break his own school record, while Kehoe also nationally provisionally qualified in the 400-meter dash (:49.15). Also provisionally qualifying for the national meet, which will be March 13-16 in Boston is Kehoe in the 400-meter dash (:49.15) and freshman Shane Roder in the 800-meter run (1:54.22).
Senior Sandy Pelkofer and freshman Marci Miller provisionally qualified for the national meet in the pole vault. Pelkofer went 12-0 and tied a Minnesota Gold Country Classic record, and Miller provisionally qualified for nationals with an 11-6 1/4 mar.
Junior Tammy Christensen provisionally qualified for the national meet in the 800-meter run (2:17.36), while freshman Missy Tuschen provisionally qualified in the shot put, with a toss of 43-1.
