Vermillion JV stuns Douglas Patriots 40-26 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers pulled away in the second half to beat the Douglas Patriots 40-26 in boys basketball Feb. 1 at home in a game where the Tanagers held the Patriots to only 7 field goals.
The Vermillion JV had led by only two in the third period.
Adam Brunick scored 18 points, including three of four 3-pointers, and pulled down five rebounds.
The Tanagers jumped in front 15-9 at the end of the first period, went into the locker room up 19-17 at halftime, and then led 31-25 after the third period.
�Except for the second quarter offense production (four points), I thought we put together three quarters of good basketball,� said Vermillion JV Coach Rex Huska.
The Vermillion JV improved its season mark to 7-4, while Douglas fell to 9-4.
The Vermillion JV made 3 of 6 three-point attempts and sank 7 of 15 free throw tries. The Tanagers sank 15 of 36 from the field, while Douglas was 7 of 35 from the field. Douglas connected on 3 of 7 three-point tries and sank 3 of 5 from the line.
