Vermillion JV wins game with Panthers by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers pulled away in the second half to beat the Dakota Valley Panthers 45-31 in boys� junior varsity basketball Feb. 5 at home.
The score was tied 20-20 at halftime.
�The second half defense turned a tie game at half to a 14 point win for this young team,� said Vermillion JV Coach Rex Huska. �We are starting to get more steals than turnovers, and we are turning the ball over at critical times.�
The Tanagers led 11-10 after the opening period, the score was 20-20 after the second quarter, and the Tanagers led 35-26 going into the final period.
The Vermillion JV improved its season mark to 9-4, while Dakota Valley fell to 4-10.
The Vermillion JV made 1 of 9 three-point attempts and hit 10 of 16 free throw attempts. The Tanagers connected on 17 of 43 field goal attempts, while Dakota Valley was 12 of 40 from the field. Dakota Valley connected on 3 of 10 three-pointers and connected on 4 of 8 free throw tries.
