VHS volleyball drops close match by Jim Prosser The Vermillion volleyball teams played another exciting game but the results were less than satisfactory when they faced class B powerhouse Viborg Feb. 11. The C team played a three game match (15-7, 4-15, 10-15) for the first loss. Jackie Thomas led the team with 7 service points, 3 aces, 4 assists, and 5 digs. Annie Carlson had 6 SP, 3 aces, and 3 kills. Laura Aga contributed 4 SP, and 5 digs.
The B team couldnt salvage a win in their two game match (10-15, 12-15). Head coach Lenni Billberg was somewhat disappointed with the closeness of the 15-5, 13-15, 12-15 three game loss in the Viborg match.
The ability to finish just was not with us tonight, she said. We had the opponent down in all three games, yet just couldnt get the job done! We did, however have strong performances from Ashley, Karen, and Allison.
Play at the service line gave Ashey Bjorkman credit for 10 SP, 5 aces, 10K at the net, and 22 digs on defense. Karen Sorensen contributed 10 kills and 11 digs, while Allison Stewart scored 8 kills, 5 SP, 1 ace, and 9 digs.
Meggie Donnelly provided 27 assists, 8 SP, 1 ace, and 8 digs; Tessa Tuetken had an assist, 5 K, and 7 D; and Whitney Tolsma recorded a solo block, a kill, 5 SP, 4 aces and 11 digs.
