Tanager freshmen down Madison Bulldogs 42-28 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers downed the Madison Bulldogs 42-28 in freshman boys� basketball Feb. 15 at home as the winners led after each quarter.
�We had an off night,� said Vermillion freshman coach Mark Iverson. �There aren�t too many games we will win when we missed so many layups. They did dig down in the fourth and pull it pulled it out.�
The Tanagers forced 20 Madison turnovers to provide a big assist for the victory.
The Tanagers jumped in front 13-4 after the opening period, went into the locker room up 24-11 at halftime, and then held a lead of 31-20 after the third period.
The Vermillion freshmen improved its record to 8-4, while Madison dropped to 5-10.
The Vermillion freshmen connected on 2 of 8 three-point attempts and sank 10 of 22 from the line. The Tanagers connected on 15 of 49 field goals, while Madison was 10 of 35 from the field. Madison connected on 2 of 8 three-pointers and made 6 of 10 free throw tries.
The Tanagers had several fine individual efforts in the victory.
�Chad Teigen had a decent game, and Kyle, Jason and Matt did a good job on the boards,� coach Iverson said.
