Tanager JV pulls away to defeat Panthers by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers pulled away in the second half to defeat the Dakota Valley Panthers 45-31 in boys� junior varsity basketball Feb. 5 at home.

The score was tied 20-20 at halftime.

�The second half defense turned a tie game at half to a 14 point win for this young team,� said Vermillion JV coach Rex Huska. �We are starting to get more steals than turnovers and are not turning the ball over at critical times.�

The Tanagers jumped in front 11-10 at the end of the first period, the score was 20-20 at halftime, and the Tanagers led 35-26 going into the final period.

The Vermillion JV improved its record to 9-4, while Dakota Valley dropped to 4-10.

The Vermillion JV hit 1 of 9 three-point tries and connected on 10 of 16 free throw tries. The Tanagers made 17 of 43 field goals while Dakota Valley was 12 of 40 from the field. Dakota Valley sank 3 of 10 three-pointers and hit 4 of 8 free throw tries.
