Baseball team splits games at Renner By Jim Prosser After a couple early season rain-outs and cancellations, the Tanagers traveled to Renner to face the Rangers ball club represented by Baltic/Tri Valley/Renner, on Sunday, April 4.
The visitors held a 3-3 tie after three innings, before the Rangers scored five runs in the fourth and then coasted to a 10-7 win over the Tanager varsity. Danny Holoch was the starter and losing pitcher, giving up seven runs on six hits, three walks, and registering seven strike outs. He was relieved by Drew Lawrence who gave up three runs on two hits and five base on balls in 1 2/3 innings.
Adam Brunick pitched the final inning, surrendering two hits, then striking out two and ending the game with a fly out.
Things are not all that bad! The Tanager offense didn�t give up as they had 10 hits driving in seven runs. Eric Rickord led off the game with a home run; Brunick went two for four, scored one and had an RBI; Lawrence was two for three, scored twice and had two RBIs; Ray O�Connor had two RBIs, scored one run and batted two for four; Holoch contributed an RBI on two for three batting; Brett Mockler drove in a run and B.J. Campbell scored a run.
The JV team played a second game for a double header competition. Statistics were not kept but the nine reserves, comprised of mostly freshmen and sophomores, salvaged a 2-0 victory to make the trip worthwhile.
