Choral concert will benefit Welcome Table On Sunday, April 21, at 4 p.m., the Senior Choir of the United Church of Christ, Congregational will present a benefit choral concert to assist the Welcome Table, a weekly meal provided by community organizations on Monday evenings from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
The concert will feature The Sprig of Thyme by John Rutter, a cycle of Irish, Scottish, and English folk songs accompanied by an orchestra of John Thomson and Katie Fulton, violins; Chris Dabney, viola; Richard Rognstad, cello; Christopher Jansen, bass; Tamala Talley, harp; Sarah Van Berkum, flute; Jenna Williams, oboe; Deborah Check Reeves, clarinet; and Loretta Thomas, bassoon. Jeanne Dahlin will direct the choir and orchestra.
The songs to be sung are The Bold Grenadier, The Keel Row, Down by the Sally Gardens, I Know Where I'm Going, The Sprig of Thyme, The Cuckoo, Willow Song, The Willow Tree, The Miller of Dee, O Can Ye Sew Cushions, and Afton Water.
The concert serves a dual purpose. It also is a memorial concert to honor the memory of Joan Heikes, sister of Russell Heikes, long time member of the community. Joan died in the past year.
