Coyote football to open 2002 with games at Dome For the first time in the tenure of fourth-year head football coach John Austin, the South Dakota football team will host six home games in 2002, including a pair of nonconference games that will open the season at the friendly confines of the DakotaDome on the USD campus in Vermillion.
The Coyotes, 2-8 a year ago, will open the 2002 season with a nonconference match-up with Missouri Western State at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 7 at the DakotaDome. Then, South Dakota will host Minnesota-Duluth in a nonconference game at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the DakotaDome.
The Coyotes will open the North Central Conference season on the road at St. Cloud State at 1 p.m. on Sept. 21 at Selke Field in St. Cloud, MN. A week later (Sept. 28), South Dakota will face Nebraska-Omaha at 1 p.m. at Al Caniglia Field in Omaha, NE. On Oct. 5, the Coyotes will host North Dakota State in their home conference opener. Gametime for the Bison-Coyotes game will be 6:30 p.m. at the DakotaDome.
A week later, the Coyotes will host Augustana College on Dakota Day (Oct. 12) at 2 p.m. After a road trip to Northern Colorado on Oct. 19 (Nottingham Field, 1 p.m. MST), the Coyotes will host St. Joseph's College in a nonconference game at the DakotaDome at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26.
South Dakota will travel to South Dakota State University on Saturday, Nov. 2 for a 1 p.m. game at Couglin-Alumni Stadium in Brookings. They return home to host Minnesota State-Mankato at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9 at the DakotaDome.
