Eagle Scouts honored at awards banquet

Eagle Scouts honored at awards banquet Four area Eagle scouts were honored in a special ceremony at the Southern District Awards Banquet in Yankton recently.

The Scouts were all members of the Eagle Scout Class of 2001. Each Scout was presented an American flag and Eagle Scout Salute certificate from the Veterans of Foreign Wars and their Auxiliary.

Shelly Stoddard, Americanism Chairperson of VFW Post 791 and Auxiliary, said "It's important that we recognize the achievement of the honored rank of Eagle Scout. Statistics tell us that these young men will be at the top, among tomorrow's leaders. We are proud to show our support of them and the Scouting program that helps develop leaders like these young men."

Honored Eagle class members were Brandon Paulson from Yankton, Craig Bierle, Jake Jensen, Mark Rusch, Adam Nelson and Ben Williams, all of Vermillion.

Dave Broadwell, Alcester was named honorary scoutmaster of the Eagle class.

Thirteen area scouts and leaders received special recognition at the recent Southern District Awards Banquet held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Yankton.

Corey Davis, district executive for the district said, "This annual event places the spotlight on the everyday people who make the Scouting program work. Cub and Boy Scouting is an organization run by volunteers. Our program could not exist without these people.

* Boy Scouter of the Year � Derek Lee, Elk Point.


* Cub Scout Work Horse(s) � Dan and Linda Brown, Gay-ville; Sandy Schloss, Yankton.


* Boy Scout Work Horse � Gary Faulkner, Scotland.


* Cub Scout Spouse � Rich Leyden, Yankton.


* Boy Scout Spouse � Karen Stucky, Freeman.


* Cub Scout Family � Warren Brenner Family, Yankton.


* Boy Scout Family � Mike Pratt Family, Yankton.


* District Awards of Merit � Tony Nelson, Vermillion; Gary Gates, Yankton.
