Fifth-grade victorious at Last Chance Tournament The fifth-grade travel team from Vermillion compiled a 4-0 record at the Last Chance Tournament in Huron on April 12-13.
Vermillion got off to a slow start in game one and trailed Huron 13-2. The team battled back with full court man-to-man pressure and came out with a 29-25 overtime win.
In game two, Vermillion came out on fire and exploded to a 31-7 halftime lead. With balanced scoring Vermillion prevailed 45-21.
Canby, MN and Vermillion squared off in a battle of unbeatens. Plagued by foul trouble throughout the game, Vermillion managed to hang on for a 39-35 win.
The final game pitted Vermillion against Watertown. Vermillion led 16-10 at halftime and managed to pull away late in the third quarter for 43-28 victory.
For its first year of basketball the team has struggled but its hard work and efforts paid off in Huron. The team was also awarded the sportsmanship trophy at the Morningside Tournament in early January.
