Final students of the month selected Elizabeth Slagle and Karen Sorensen were selected as the April Students of the Month at Vermillion High School.
These seniors were nominated by VHS faculty members for their leadership in the school and in the community. They will receive a $100 scholarship from First National Bank in Vermillion for their efforts.
Slagle "is easily the most dedicated and hardworking student I have ever worked with," according to her faculty endorsement.
She had participated in forensics, band, newspaper, tennis, Student Congress, Jazz Band, soccer, the musical Grease and National Honors Society. She was a Girls State delegate and will be in the Wizard of Oz.
Slagle's plans are to attend the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities this fall. Her parents are Frank and Ruth Ann Slagle.
Sorensen's various activities include volleyball, National Honors Society, band, FCCLA, track manager, tutor, and the Renaissance Board.
She was VHS's representative at the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Camp and she attended Girls State.
Along with being a Sunday School teacher, her community volunteering included the Chamber of Commerce, the Summer Arts Festival, and the Special Olympics.
Her parents are Jim and Mariella Sorensen.
Sorensen's intentions are to attend The University of South Dakota with a major in education or in physical therapy.
These two honorees were preceded for this 2001-2002 selection by Mary Nelson and Dustin Schempp � September, Clint Christensen and Alexis Lang � October, Carrie Engstrom and Dan Ring � November, Andrew Knutson and Audrey Foltz � December, Ben Williams and Megan Kruse � January, Jon Hoadley and Maria Iles � February, and Mark Rusch and Ashley Thompson � March.
