Nelson awarded Basin scholarship The Clay-Union Electric/ Basin Electric Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, has been awarded to Rachel Nelson, daughter of Bill and Jane Nelson of Burbank.
Nelson attends Vermillion High School, and has been active in many school activities during the past four years. She has been a four-year band member, active in the marching, symphonic and pep bands. She has also participated in Quiz Bowl, Art Club, Science Club, and German Club and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Outside of school, her time is spent as an active member of 4-H, in addition to being a Sunday school teacher, and she is also a member of the Senior High Youth Group of her church. Other activities include baby sitting for families near her home in order to raise money for her college education.
To earn a living in the future, Nelson plans on attending college at either the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Campus, or Black Hills State University. She currently plans on a double major in history and education, with a minor in geography. Upon graduation, she would like to teach at the high school level.
