Polls open April 9 for Vermillion city, school board election

Polls open April 9 for Vermillion city, school board election Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 9 in the National Guard Armory/Community Center at 603 Princeton Street for the joint Vermillion municipal and Vermillion School Board election.

Voters in the city of Vermillion will decide these races:


* Mayor, two year term. Candidates are incumbent Roger Kozak and challenger Roger Jeck.


* Alderman, Central Ward, two year term. Candidates are Dan Christopherson and Mary B. Edelen. Incumbent Barbara Yelverton is not seeking re-election.


* Alderman, Southeast Ward, two year term. Candidates are incumbent Jere L. Chapman and challenger Ray Hofman.

City council members who are unopposed are John E. Powell, Northwest Ward, two year term; Gary Wright, Northeast Ward, two year term; and Kevin Annis, Northeast Ward, one year term.

Voters residing in the city and in the Vermillion School District will also choose a new member of the Vermillion School Board. Michael Granaas and Jon Robertson are vying for a three year term on the board. Incumbent Jim Kinney is not seeking re-election.

If the polls cannot be opened because of bad weather, the election may be postponed one week.

Voters with disabilities may contact the city finance officer or school business manager for information and special assistance in absentee voting or polling place accessibility.
