Tanager golfers place fourth at Yankton by Jim Prosser The enthusiasm of the Tanager girls' golf team, facing a 13-high school team tournament at Yankton Friday, April 19, paid off with a fourth place finish among the "giants" represented by 10 Class 11AA schools and two other Class 11A teams.
Coach Kirk Hogen was pleased with the performance of his young charges on the
difficult Hillcrest Country Club golf course.
"We were able to score well, as a complete team, against some of the top teams in the state on a less than perfect weather day," he said.
While the winning streak
of eight straight came to an
end, the fourth place finish
was significant since the
other "A" school teams came in last.
The common method of taking the best four out of five scores gave Vermillion the team score of 392 for 18 holes.
Individual Tanager scores were: Allison Stewart 88 (second place tie), Karrie Plate 90 (fourth place tie), Jackie Thomas 105, Ashley Bjorkman 109, and Megan Deaver 115. Overall there were nearly 70 golfers competing.
Tournament top five team scores were: Brookings 363, Yankton 381, Sioux Falls Lincoln 388, Vermillion 392, and Aberdeen Central 402.
