VHS boys’ track successful at Lennox

VHS boys' track successful at Lennox by Jim Prosser The Tanager boys' track team had a successful time at the Lennox Booster Club Qualifier on Thursday, April 18. No team scoring was determined. Schools attending the meet were Brandon Valley, Brookings, Canton, Dakota Valley, Lennox, Sioux Falls Lincoln, Mitchell, Parkston and Vermillion.

Field events results for Vermillion were: Discus � Ray O'Connor, seventh, 156'6", shot put � O'Connor, fifth; long jump � Kellen Cusick, eighth; triple jump � Tim Harden, eighth; high jump � Jerad Hesla, sixth.

The coaches held out the hurdle and dash men so they could load up the relay teams in an effort to qualify for state. However, in the 400M dash, Quincy Christie won in a time of :53.2 seconds. In the 800M run Eric Dehner won (2:04.6) and Chad Teigen was fourth, with Tyler Brown finishing eighth. The 1600M run had Eric Dehner placing first with a new meet record of 4:41.4; while Craig Powell placed fifth in the 3200M.

In the relays, the 4x200M team finished first in 1:35.8 Bart Miller, Cusick, Oliver Hope, and Christie, and the 4×400 relay team placed third with the foursome Cusick, Cristie, Hope, and Miller.

In the 4x00M relay the team of Reynolds, Caleb Berry, Jon Miller, and A.J. Manning placed fourth; and the medley team of Ryan Mockler, Jordan Anderson, Caleb Berry, and Mitch Bierle placed sixth.
