VHS girls' track team third at DV invitational By Jim Prosser The Tanager girls� track team scored 128 points to capture third place at the Dakota Valley Invitational last Saturday, April 13. Six teams were in attendance � Dakota Valley, Beresford, Elk Point-Jefferson, Homer, NE, Alcester/Hudson and VHS.
Vermillion scorers in field events were: Kat Redlin placed sixth in high jump, and fifth in long jump. Nicole Peterson won the triple jump (33' 11 1/2" while Sarah Christopherson and Ashley Hofer were fourth and sixth in that order.
Lindsay Dunkeson placed second and Carly Bernard was third in the 100M hurdles and in the 300M hurdles, Bernard finished third, Brittany Weydert fourth and Katie Miskimins sixth. In the 100M dash Crystal Coakley was second and Nicki Nelson placed third. Nicole Pederson placed fourth in the 200M dash while Coakley placed sixth. Heather Heine was second in the 400M dash. In the 800M run, Morgan Brooks placed second, with Jeanette Nygaard in sixth. The 1600M run had Nicki Mollet in second, Tera Dehner in third place and Jaime Bernard fifth. Finishing first in the 3200M run was Megan Griffith (13:38.39) and Sarah Plate was in sixth.
In the relays, fourth place was scored in the the 4X100M by relay team Ali Christensen, Penny Decker, Teresa Dendinger and Kate Miskimins. The 4X400M relay team came in fourth place (Brooke Johnson, Heather Heine, Kati Dehner and Penny Decker). The 4X800M team of Morgan Brooks, Kati Dehner, Kayla Mollet and Brittany Weydert won the race in 10:30.28, and the medley relay team finished second (Nicki Mollet, Chrystal Coakley, Weydert and Kayla Mollet).
