VHS suffers loss in baseball season-opener by Jim Prosser The surroundings in Dimock were unfamiliar for the Tanager team and the early season game was played in a high wind and cool weather conditions which led to many base on balls for both the home team Parkston Trojans and the VHS ball club.
The visitors held a 3-3 tie before Parkston took a two run lead into the final inning. Helped by four walks, a hit batter and two singles, the Trojans scored six runs to win 11-3.
K. Schoenfelder was the winning pitcher giving up two hits and 10 walks. The Tanager losing pitcher was Drew Lawrence who surrendered four hits and 11 walks, while striking out nine. Offensive stats are pretty sparce! Jeff Gilbertson went one for three batting and drove in two runs, scoring one.
Brett Mockler went one for two and Andy Ofstehage reached base three times by being hit by the pitcher in every one of his at bats. Kyle Mollet was on base twice by walks and scored the other run for the Tanagers.
