World's people are the subjects of Banasiak photos "Environmental portraits" photographed around the world by John Banasiak of Vermillion are on display at the Gayville Gallery at 504 Washington Street in Gayville through May 18.
The photographic exhibit features 39 portraits of some of the "beautiful people" that Banasiak has photographed during the last decade in their homeland environments in 11 countries around the world � Spain, Morocco, Ecuador, Cuba, Panama, Nicaragua, Yugoslavia, Jordan, Turkey, Hungary and China.
Banasiak grew up in Chicago and earned BFA and MFA degrees from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He taught at SUNY-Oswego before joining the fine arts faculty of the University of South Dakota in 1980. Banasiak's photographic honors and awards are many, and his works are in collections coast to coast.
A reception for the artist will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. Entry to the photographic show and the reception are free to the public.
