Annual summer arts festival planned at USD The University of South Dakota campus will host the ninth Annual Missouri River Summer Arts and Music Festival on June 15-16. Events will take place on the Old Main Quadrangle on the USD campus in Vermillion.
Hands-on activities will include many different categories of art, including basket weaving, blacksmithing, raku pottery and candle making. Concerts will be given every hour by 11 musicians and musical groups in a variety ofstyles. Musical artists in this year's lineup include Dakota Pipes and Drums; South Dakota Jazz Quartet; Ann Zimmerman; Glen Road; Cathy Barton and Dave Para; Dennis Warner; Greenwood Tree; Kickland; Johnson and Martin; Vermillion Community Choir; Carib Coyotes and Slainte.
Families are welcome to attend these events, and special programs for children will take place under the children's tent. In addition to a variety of arts and crafts activities, there will be performances by the Freshwater Pearls Punch and Judy show and the Discovery Mime Theatre.
A wide variety of festival foods are also planned for the weekend, including homemade ice cream, Indian tacos, kettle corn, funnel cakes and more.
