Flynn hired as superintendent of Akron-Westfield school district Ron Flynn by David Lias Ron Flynn's long association with the Wakonda School District will soon be coming to an end.
Flynn was hired Monday as the new superintendent of the Akron-Westfield (IA) School District.
He will begin his new duties July 1, ending a 23-year tenure at Wakonda where he has served as grade 7-12 principal, athletic director and basketball coach.
For the past two years, he has served as Wakonda's superintendent and secondary principal.
During that time, the Wakonda School Board was unsuccessful in passing a bond issue to make building improvements to the school, but under Flynn's watch in the last year a plan to construct an addition to the school using capital outlay funds was approved.
The Akron-Westfield district's K-12 enrollment is approximately 560.
Flynn said his first order of business July 1 will be to help hire a new elementary principal for the district and to begin to get acquainted with community members.
Flynn said he and his wife, Vicki, will eventually move to Akron.
"It was a difficult decision," he said. "I really enjoyed my years in Wakonda. I look at this as a career advancement, and the challenge of a new career is exciting. There are a lot of good things about Wakonda I'm going to miss."
