Girls' track team has field day at Yankton by Jim Prosser There were eight schools represented at the Yankton High School 2002 Quarterback Relays last Thursday, April 25: Brandon Valley, Dakota Valley, Hanson County, Lennox, Mitchell, OGorman, Vermillion, and Yankton.
No team points were recorded but the Tanager girls track team had some great results in several events:
Field events: In the long jump, Nicole Peterson was fourth and Anne Carlson placed fifth. Lindsay Dunkeson came in fifth in the 100M hurdles.
The JV division was comprised of sophomore or younger competitors, and results for the Tanager girls were excellent, considering the other teams entered.
Sarah Christopherson placed second in the triple jump. Brooke Johnson was third in the 100M hurdles and placed second in the 300M hurdles. Nicki Nelson won both the 100M (13.4) and 200M (28.4) dashes. Ali Christensen was fourth in the 100M, and Heather Heine placed first in the 400M dash (1:06.3). The 800M run had the Tanager JV girls finishing first, second and third with Morgan Brooks leading the way (2:31.3), followed by Brittany Gilkyson (2:31.8) and Kayla Mollet (2:33.1), while Theresa Ring was fifth in the 1600M run, and Sarah Plate finished in fourth place in the 3200M.
You seldom see the relay teams from one school sweep the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400 races. But the Tanager JVs accomplished the feat. 4x100M, first (55.8) Nelson, Ali Johnson, Brooke Johnson, and Christopherson; 4x200M, first (1:56.1) Nelson, Brooke Johnson, Carlson, and Christopherson; and the 4x400M relay team made up of Brooks, Heine, Kayla Mollet, and Gilkyson broke the finish line tape in first place timed at 4:30.8!
