Halvorson named May's USD employee LaVonne Halverson, a secretary in the Office of Residential Life at The University of South Dakota, has been named the USD Career Service Employee of the Month for May.
Halverson was honored during a ceremony on May 1 on the Slagle Auditorium Stage. USD Vice President of Finance and Administration Greg Redlin presented Halverson with a plaque and a check.
Halverson was nominated by Mary Lou Christopherson, program assistant in the Office of Residential Life. In her nomination letter, Christopherson commended Halverson for her professionalism, compassion and knowledge of her job.
"LaVonne has spent her entire career dedicated to the specific needs of the students residing in the USD residence halls," said Christopherson. "She contributes not only an abundance of history and knowledge, but also patience for students, parents and staff comparable by none."
One of Halverson's job duties includes working with room placements for every resident hall student, which she is very conscientious about, according to Christopherson.
In addition to painstakingly studying each individual application and attempting to find the best possible match, Halverson has spent many hours responding to student and parent concerns, always showing the utmost respect and compassion.
Her disposition has earned her the respect of students, staff and co-workers alike.
"I love my job and I enjoy the contact with students," Halverson said. "The Residential Life staff and my coworkers are the very best, making every day a joy to come to work. I've really enjoyed working at USD."
"LaVonne is a model employee," Christopherson said. "In my years as her supervisor, I have never fielded a negative complaint regarding her work,
attitude or treatment of others. She is truly a special person and very deserving of this honor."
Halverson began working for the USD Office of Residential Life 25 years ago. A native of Vermillion, Halverson continues to live here with her husband, David. The Halversons have two adult children and three grandchildren.
