Obituaries Lynnette Graber

Lynnette Sue Hatch Graber, 53, of Sioux Falls, died May 14, 2002 at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Lynette Johnson was born March 20, 1949 in Vermillion to Arnold and Sylvia (Wold) Johnson. She graduated from Wakonda High School in 1967, and attended South Dakota State University in Brookings. She married Steve Hatch in Vermillion on Aug. 23, 1968.

She married Richard Graber on April 20, 1996 in Sioux Falls. Lynnette was dedicated to her faith, her family and her friends. She will be remembered most for her uncompromising values and her grace. She was a member of Shalom Lutheran Church in Harrisburg.

She founded the Hatch Uniform Services in 1983, and sold the business in 1999. She was working as a Christian education resource specialist for Augsburg Fortress Publishers until her illness.

Survivors include her parents, Arnold and Sylvia Johnson of Vermillion; her husband, Rich of Sioux Falls; three sons, Chad (Korie) Hatch of Harrisburg, Casey (Lana) Hatch of Austin, MN, and Clyde Hatch of St. Paul, MN; and her daughter, Tina Hatch of Kalamazoo, MI. She is also survived by five grandchildren, and two sisters, Sandy (Loren) Odland of Arlington; and Debbie (Richard) Peterson of Vermillion. Also surviving her is her former husband, Steve Hatch, Sioux Falls, and many aunts and uncles.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 17, at the Shalom Lutheran Church in Harrisburg, with private burial following in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Vermillion. A prayer service was held Thursday, May 16 at the church.

Donations may be sent to the Shalom Lutheran Church Education Building Fund. The Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion is handling the arrangements.

Luella Evelyn Sorensen

Luella Evelyn Sorensen, 87, of Irene, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at Sunset Manor Avera Nursing Home in Irene.

She was born Aug. 20, 1914 to Sophus and Christine (Christiansen) Peterson on a farm in Turner County near Viborg. She married Richard Sorensen of Irene on Dec. 9, 1937. They farmed near Irene and later near Wakonda until 1971. She was a 4-H leader and worked at Sunset Manor. They owned and operated Sorensen's Hardware in Irene from 1971 to 1987. She was an active member of Turkey Valley Baptist Church, where she was baptized. She was a member of Eastern Star and also volunteered at Sunset Manor after retirement.

Her husband, Richard, and one sister, Marjorie Luden, Sioux Falls, survive her. Her parents, four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Services were 2 p.m., Thursday, May 16, at Turkey Valley Baptist Church, rural Irene. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday, May 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. at the Hansen Funeral Home in Irene.

Tyrone (Ty) Waage

Tyrone (Ty) Waage, 64, of Vermillion died Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at the Sioux Valley Vermillion Hospital in Vermillion.

Mr. Waage was was born Jan. 20, 1938 in Brookings to Tom and Mabel (Krager) Waage. He later moved to the Humboldt-Hartford area, where he graduated from Humboldt High School. He started doing carpenter work at that time, and he married Connie Vogt in Colton on July 25, 1959. He worked as a carpenter in Sioux Falls, and Colton and later moved to Chamberlain where he worked for three years. They then moved to Vermillion where he worked for Annar Petterson Construction before starting his own business, Ty's Building Service, which his two sons now own and operate.

He is survived by his wife, Connie of Vermillion; three sons, Bruce (Charley) Waage of Springfield, Brian and good friend, Staci Crichton, and Brad (Patty), all of Vermillion; two daughters, Barb (Rod) Beeson of Dante, and Bonita (Bill) Manger of Vermillion. Also surviving him are 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, and three sisters, Jean (Gerald) Ordal of Colton, Judy (Don) Buehner of Canistota, and Joan Everson of Madison, as well as many nieces, nephes, aunts, uncles and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion with burial to follow in the BluffView Cemetery in Vermillion. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, May 17, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the church.

The arrangements are being handled by Hansen Funeral Home.
