Post #1 baseball team opens with tourney by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Legion Post #1 baseball team will be playing in the Watertown invitational this weekend, June 1 and 2, when they face Groton, Watertown, Flandreau, and Lennox in a two-day doubleheader event.

The roster of the team is basically comprised of the Vermillion High School members who played an early spring schedule in the South Dakota high school �B� league. That team had a final record of 7-6 and lost the regional tournament championship game 2-0 against Chamberlain High School.

The following is a recap of the statistics for the VHS Tanager season: Leading the team in batting averages were � Drew Lawrence, .400, and reserve catcher Andrew Ofstehage, .428. Also having high BA were Brett Mockler, .375, Dan Holoch, .370, and Adam Brunick, .361. Leading scorers were Eric Rickord with 12, Lawrence and B.J. Campbell. 11 each. RBI leaders were Mockler with 10, Jeff Gilbertson 9, followed by Ray O�Connor and Lawrence with 8 each.

Jason Gault is the coach for both the high school and Legion Post #1 teams.
