Tanager girls place third at Mitchell Invitational by Jim Prosser The Tanager girls� golf team, facing an 18 high school team tournament at Mitchell on Friday, April 26, came off with a third place among the 13 class 11AA schools and five class 11A teams competing.
Coach Kirk Hogen thought the competition was comparable to the Yankton invite on a difficult Lakeview Municipal golf course.
�We were able to score well, as a complete team, against some of the best teams in the state,� he said.
The top four out of five scores gave Vermillion a score of 363 for 18 holes (last year the Tanager score on the same course was a 397).
Individual Tanager scores were: Allison Stewart and Karrie Plate � 82 (tie for second), Jackie Thomas � 95, Ashley Bjorkman � 104, Kalie Heesch � 105, and Megan Deaver � 109.
There were nearly 120 participants and the tournament team scores were: Brookings 353, Mitchell 354, Vermillion 363, Huron 368, Sioux Falls Lincoln 369, Aberdeen Central 369, Yankton 377, Winner 378, Pierre 379, Rapid City Stevens 396, Sioux Falls Washington 397, Brandon Valley 401, Sturgis 406, Madison 409, Sioux Falls Roosevelt 428, Watertown 432, Lennox 448, Pierre 428 and Todd County 464.
