Tanager girls' track team fourth at Region 4A meet by Jim Prosser The Tanager girls� track team scored 99 points to place fourth at the Region 4A meet last Thursday, May 16 at the VHS track facility. Beresford was first with 135 and the other schools places and point totals were: second � Lennox, 124; third � Dakota Valley, 116.5; fifth � Parker, 93; sixth � Canton, 70.5; seventh � Elk Point-Jefferson, 66; and eighth � Alcester-Hudson, 16.
To qualify for the state meet, the first and second place scorers in each event are selected. Also, any member of the team who meets the standard, set by the state in any event, will be qualified.
VHS scorers in field events were Annie Carlson and Nicole Pederson, who scored fifth and seventh place, respectively in the long jump; Carlson was second and Pederson was fifth in the triple jump, while Ashley Hofer and Meggie Donnelly were tied for sixth in the high jump.
Lindsay Dunkeson placed second in the 100M hurdles and third in the 300M hurdles. Brooke Johnson was fourth in the 300M hurdles, and Britany Weydert placed eighth. The 100M dash had Nicki Nelson placing sixth, and the 200M found Crystal Coakley in seventh.
In the 800M run, Brittney Gilkyson came in second and Morgan Brooks third; the 1600M run found Tera Dehner placing seventh. To complete the distance running events Megan Griffith placed second, Nicki Mollet fourth and Katie Dehner fifth in the 3200M.
In the relays, sixth place went to the 4x100M team with members Coakley, Ali Christensen, Donnelly, and Sarah Christopherson; 4x200M team placed fifth � Pederson, Nelson, Coakley, and Johnson; the 4x400M relay team came in seventh, with members Heine, Brooks, Kayla Mollet and Gilkyson. The 4x800M relay team placed third (Brooks, Pederson, Mollet, and Gilkyson) and the sprint medley team with Pederson, Nelson, Heine, and Kayla Mollet was in fourth place.
The members who qualified for state during the season are Lindsay Dunkeson, Nicki Nelson, Anne Carlson, Nicole Pederson, Megan Griffith, and Brittney Gilkyson.
