Vermillion High School presents The Wizard of Oz Follow the yellow brick road to the Vermillion High School Performing Arts Center for an exciting evening of drama and music. All ages will be delighted by Dorothy's, (Monica Wing), and Toto's, (Sparkle Houska), magical adventures in the Land of Oz.
On her journey to see the Wizard, (Jon Hoadley), she befriends a Cowardly Lion, (Ben McBride), a Tinman, (Zachary Holoch), and a Scarecrow, (Arthur Begley), who aid and protect her from the Wicked Witch of the West, (Shandhini Raidoo). Many more unusual characters greet and surprise her, including the Good Witch of the North, (Alexis Lang) a bossy gate keeper, (Mike Clark), and an entire city of very short people.
Will she reach her final destination where Aunt Em, (Heather Reeves), and Uncle Henry, (Mark Amiotte), are waiting? Come tonight and tomorrow night to find out!
Based on the book by South Dakota native L. Frank Baum, this stage version of The Wizard of Oz was originally presented by the Royal Shakespeare Company with music and lyrics from the MGM motion picture score by Harold
Arlen and E. Y. Harburg. The background music is by Herbert Stothart, and the book adaptation is by John Kane from the motion picture screenplay.
The Wizard of Oz plays tonight and tomorrow night, May 17 and 18. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for students. They can be purchased from Davis Pharmacy, Nook 'n Cranny, the high school office, or at the door.
