VHS golfers end perfect dual season by Jim Prosser �Our objective is to make the effort and keep the winning margin close enough at the end so that the difference favors the Tanagers!� said Coach Kirk Hogen. �Playing our home golf course, The Bluffs, helped the Vermillion girls in their quest for another dual match win. This was an important victory over a good Yankton team as we prepare for the regional on Monday, May 13.�
In a match played Friday, May 10, the Tanagers beat the Gazelles 357-366.
Medalist with a score of 74 was Allison Stewart. Karrie Plate placed second with 83, followed by Dru VanKley, 97, and Ashley Bjorkman and Jackie Thomas each at 103.
The varsity season ended with all duals won and every tournament, except the two which were dominated by class AA teams, where they placed third and fourth.
The JV matches also went Vermillion�s way with a 419-427 victory for the Tanagers junior varsity. All the youngsters got to play and the coach wants to recognize their efforts.
Kaylie Heesch scored 96, Anna Isaacson, 98, Megan Deaver, 105, Tristen Upward, 120, Claire Buchland, 124, and Chelsea Gauer, 126. The top four of the best five scores determined the team score.
