VMS girls' track athletes overpowers EP-J by Jim Prosser On Thursday, April 13, the seventh- and eighth-grade girls� track teams scored impressive victories: (seventh grade) V-61, EP/J-25 and (eighth grade) V-57, EP/J-15 in a dual meet with Elk Point-Jefferson.
The placers for the seventh- grade girls are, in field events: Shot put � Britini Stewart, first 21'4" and Tori Adams, third; discus � Greta Sjoile, first, 51'9", and Ashley Ruhaak, second; long jump � Ariel Hofman, first, 13'3.5", Annie Roche, second. In the 100M hurdles � Kinsey Weydert, Annika Sjolie, and Bethany Sand placed first, second and third. The winning time was 19.2 seconds.
In the dashes: 100M � Hofman, first, 13.8, Kristina Blythe second, Stewart, fifth, and Sam Ahlers, sixth; 200M � Roche, first, 30.5, Alicia McFarland, second, and Josephine Kabambi, third.
Distance runs: 800M � Katarina Gombocz, first, 2:56; 1600M � Gombocz, first.
The 4X200 relay placed first with members (Roche, Annika Sjolie, Weydert, and Hofman).
First place went to the 4X100 relay � (Roche, Weydert, Kabambi, and Hofman).
The eighth-graders had placers in the following field events: Shot put � Michelle Olson, second, Amy Mart, third; discus � Patricia Merrigan, second; long jump � Carrie Christensen, first, 13'2", Megan Epping. second, Jadee Hofer, third. In the 100M hurdles � Michelle Olson, first, :20.0, Kim Baker, second, and Caley Gerth, third.
In the dashes: 100M � Epping, first, 13.9, Brittany Babb, second; 200M � Babb, first, 29.9, Amy Mollet, third.
Long distance runs: 800M run � Patricia Merrigan, first, 3:07; 1600M run � Maggie Thorn, first, 6:17.
The 4X100 relay placed first with runners (Mollet, Mart, Babb, and Epping). The other relay team won their event: 4X200M � (Mollet, Babb, Christensen, and Epping).
