Wednesday Evening Ladies League
While Wednesday, June 12, started out as a clear, sunny day, the evening was cool and windy for the start of another evening of golf. By the time we were playing the third to last hole, the weather began to threaten and then the rain began.
Despite the rain and wind (or aided by it), five golfers managed to score birdies: Mary Mock on #6, Diane Duin on #1, Ruby Plate on #8, Deb Heyl on #4 and Michelle Brunick on #2. Michelle Brunick seemed to enjoy the wind as she scored both the low gross, a 40 (although she wanted a 39), and the low net, a 32 (40-8).
Our hosts for the evening were the Golf Bags. They awarded pin prizes for longest putt on #2 to Deb Heyl, closest second shot on #7 to Kathy Merrigan-Manning, and shortest drive on #4 to Dawn Kropuenske. Michelle Fostvedt landed inside the rope and claimed (finally) the prize monies. Kris Gregoire also received money as the Quackson winner.
In addition to golf, yesterday was also the birthday of Deb Larson. She was treated to (assaulted by?) a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday from the group. Despite the rumors going around, the facts show that she is still under 50.
The weather cooled off and so did the play on Thursday, June 13 with a shotgun start using all tee boxes on the back nine. With steady winds and lower than usual temps, the weather again appeared to affect the play.
Results of the fourth week in the American division had a best team score of 16.5 points from The Bluffs boys who improved their spot in the standings from ninth to fifth. Recuerdos/Silver$ also had highest team score of 16.5 while D.O. Double G scored 16.
Low individual scratch score of 39 was the best to be accomplished Rick Haught and Dave Giese shared that honor. Gary Prosser carded a 40, and Jeremy Cowman reported in with 41. Giese and Cowman were the only players in the field to score net under par each.
There were 11 birdies reported for the day, two by Haught. And for the guy who was not intimidated by the wind, the bonus for Jim Frye was a hole-in-one on #12 (a 153 yard par 3). He used a smooth 7 wood for the feat.
The National division has "Chalkys" dominating the standings as they scored 18.5 points to cinch their first place position. "Bogey Plus" moved into second place when they scored 16.5 points.
Kevin Brown had a 42 for lowest individual score. Steve Gapp carded a 43 (net 36); Kent Anderson had a 44 (net 29); Shorty Hanson also scored 44 with net under par 35. Other net scores in
the 30's were: Tom Ingram with 32, and Jerry Hansen and Troy Nicks 37 each. Only six birdies were reported.
Team standings are listed below:
Wednesday Ladies Golf, Bridge and Dominoes
One Club Scramble was the game for 19 golfers. Each team picked a score before playing and chose one club to use on each hole. The winning team was one stroke off their picked score JoAnn Beringer, Jan Uhl, Roberta Benson and Eileen Turner. Two strokes off was the team of Ardyce Meisenholder, Pat Pratt, Edith Nelson and Dorothy Dahlman.
The Cherry Street Grille served Arkansas Wrap and salad for lunch. There were 36 members and guests. Dessert was furnished by Babe Hurowitz and Joann Willroth. Wednesday Evening Ladies League (WELL) Standings
