4-H special foods contest held

4-H special foods contest held Three local members participated in the Clay County 4-H Special Foods contest held Tuesday, June 18 at Vermillion High School. Participants had 90 minutes to prepare a dish of their choice, coordinate a table setting and meal menu. In addition, participants were tested on their knowledge of nutrition, food safety and food preparation.

Purple ribbons were awarded to Ashley Ouellette in the beginner division with her recipe Frosty Fruit Freeze Float; Ariel Begley, junior division, making Fruit Palacsinta and Theresa Ring in the senior division preparing Chicken/Vegetable Vinaigrette.

Purple ribbon winners are now eligible to advance to state competition at the 2002 South Dakota State Fair on July 29-30.

The judge for the Youth-in-Action event was Dawn Stoner of Yankton.

Copies of the participants' recipes are available at the Clay County Extension Office.
