4-H'ers participate in demonstration contest July 3 The Clay County 4-H Demonstration, Illustrated Talk, and Public Speaking Contest was held Wednesday, July 3 at the 4-H Center in Vermillion. Fourteen members from Clay, Union, and Yankton Counties participated in the contest.
Purple ribbon demonstration and illustrated talk presentations went to Leah Rommereim and Ann Selchert � "The Homestead Act"; Lydia Gille � "How to Select a Dutch Rabbit"; Ariel Begley � "How to Juggle"; Morgan Erickson � "Lollipop Cookies"; Amanda Aga � "Closet Combinations"; and Kyle Hubert � "Modern Day Robin Hood."
Blue ribbons were earned by Kelsy Fallen � "The Easy Way to Tie Die"; Megan Bottolfson � "Eating Healthy � The Food Guide Pyramid."
4-H members receiving purple ribbons for public speaking were Zach Holoch � "The Tip of a Lifetime"; Kristin Marshall � "Freedom Given to Us by the First Amendment"; and Ellen Kennedy � "How 4-H Benefits Me."
Purple ribbon winners will advance to the South Dakota State Fair competition in Huron between July 29 and Aug. 3.
Janet Stark of Utica and Creighton Thurman of Vermillion served as judges for the Youth in Action event.
