Extension Review by Virginia Delvaux We definitely know it's summer with the heat and humidity. One of our 4-H members found a quick way to cool off with her Special Foods entry. Ashley Ouellette, Vermillion, entered the following dish in our county contest and received a purple ribbon. If you are looking for a cool and refreshing pick me up give it a try:
Frosty Fruit Freeze Float
1 1/3 Cup Milk
l Cup Sherbet
l Cup Raspberries
l Cup Strawberries
1/4 teaspoon Almond Flavoring
1/4 Cup Powdered Sugar.
Combine above ingredients in blender and process until smooth. Pour mixture into serving glasses.
When we turn the calendar page, we are also reminded that the Clay County Fair is only a few days away. Hopefully each of you is working on your entries for the 4-H or Open Class division. 4-H entries will be accepted on Tuesday, July 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the 4-H center. Open Class entries will be accepted on Wednesday, July 17 from 6 to 8 p.m., at the open class building.
This year the Clay County Fair Board has added another contest to its list of activities. On Saturday, July 20, local residents can enter their favorite recipes in the Decorated Cake, Cookie Basket or Fruit Pie Contest. Individual entries will be accepted from noon to 1 p.m. at the 4-H Center. All food entries will be judged and awarded a ribbon placing.
Entries in the above contest will be auctioned off to the highest bidder on Saturday night at 7 p.m. All proceeds from this contest are donated to the Clay County Youth Trust Fund. If you would like to support this non-profit organization feel free to enter the contest or come and purchase one of the delicious entries.
If you are not one of the lucky bidders, you will want to stay and watch the Youth Talent Contest, and celebrate 4-H's 100th birthday with cake and ice cream served at 9 p.m. A copy of the fair schedule is available at the Clay County Extension office.
The Clay County 4-H leaders are also looking to recognize the oldest residing County 4-H member at this year's fair. If you or someone you know has been a past 4-H member and is over the age of 65 please notify the Clay County Extension Office.
