O'Connor Construction wins 18u Fastpitch Tournament In the Dakota Fastpitch league tournament on Saturday, Vermillion's 18u put another victory together making this tournament the third championship this summer. In the first game, Vermillion played a solid team from Centerville and played decent ball winning the game 9-1 in five innings. Chandal Wohlfauhrt, Brook Nelson, Sandy Bouck, and Alisha O'Connor all went 2-3. Tressa Olson also had a great game with the bat going 3-4 with two innings and pitching a one hitter. Wohlfauhrt pitched the last two innings giving up only one hit also.
In the second game, Vermillion took on a strong team from Dakota Valley and won by a score of 9-0. Vermillion had some smart base running, stealing 13 times out of 13 attempts. Vermillion also had some nice hits with Megan Kruse going 2-3 with a single and double.
Bak pitched a great game giving up only two hits in five innings. Bak also had 10 strikeouts and only one walk.
Vermillion's victory over Dakota Valley put them in the championship game against Slumberland from Yankton. Vermillion won the championship game by a score of 12-5.
Vermillion hit the ball very well with Wohlfauhrt, Olson Sandy Bouck all going 2-3. Also, Carly Bernard ran the bases well scoring three times and having a nice single. Bak was the winning pitcher striking out six batters and giving up only five hits in six innings.
Vermillion's season record is 32-3. The team will travel up to the state tournament in Sioux Falls this weekend and hopefully keep its streak alive.
