Post #1 defeats Tea by 15 run rule by Jim Prosser With the weather being pretty hot and the visiting Tea Legion Post #266 using a skeleton roster, the scheduled double-header was changed to a single nine inning competition on Tuesday, July 2, at Prentis Park.
Brett Mockler started and pitched the shortened complete game, giving up four hits while registering eight strike outs, walking two, being charged with four earned runs, and getting credit for the win.
The game started with Tea scoring two runs without the benefit of a hit, and by the middle of the fifth, Vermillion had scored six runs to four for the visitors.
It appeared that this would be another close game not so! The offense, led by Ray OConnors four run production on 3 for 4 hitting and five RBIs was complemented by Drew Lawrence who went 3-3, scoring three; Mockler aided the cause with a 2-4, two run, four RBI production; Kyle Mollet went 2-4, two runs , two RBIs; and practically every member of the team scored a run or two each in a 13 run romp through the bottom half of the fifth to close out the festivities with a 15 run rule termination.
Line scores: Vermillion 19 runs, 14 hits, 5 errors, 7 lob; Tea 4 runs, 4 hits, 1 error, 5 lob.
The 15 run rule victory gives Post #1 a 13 11 record so far this season.
