Vermillion O’Connor Construction wins another softball championship

Vermillion O'Connor Construction wins another softball championship Vermillion O'Connor Construction 18u softball team has won Vermillion's modified invite. Over the weekend the 18u Vermillion team played very good softball going 5-0 and taking home the first place trophy. On Saturday, in Vermillion's first game, the girls played a good Parkston team, but Vermillion was up for the challenge beating Parkston 12-0 in three innings. Whitney Tolsma went 2-2 with a triple and double. Becky Bak had a nice home run and also was the winning pitcher with a no-hitter and six strikeouts. Brooke Nelson also went 2-2 with a pair of singles.

In the second game on Saturday, Vermillion played a team from Montrose and kept their streak alive beating Montrose 12-6. Kelsie Austin and Alisha O'Connor both went 2-2 with O'Connor hitting a triple and grand slam and Austin with a single and home run. Bak was the winning pitcher with 10 strikeouts.

In the third game on Saturday, Vermillion played Burke Royals and had a pretty tough game for five innings with only a one run lead, but then pulled away in the sixth to beat Burke 12-8. Chandal Wohlfaurt, Austin and Tressa Olson all went 2-3 with two singles. Sandy Bouck also went 2-3 with a home run and a single. Bak was again the winning pitcher for Vermillion with seven strikeouts.

On Sunday, Vermillion played Parkston again and a victory would put them in the championship game against Burke. Vermillion met the challenge and swept Parkston with a final score of 12-3 in five innings. Bak was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts. Wohlfaurt went 3-3 with three singles, and Austin went 2-2 with two singles.

In the championship game, Vermillion had to play Burke again and Burke played them tough for the first few innings, but then Vermillion started to hit the ball and beat Burke 9-1 taking home the championship.

Bouck and Whitney Tolsma had nice triples. Bak went 2-3 and also was the winning pitcher and pitched all five games with a 5-0 record and 39 strikeouts.

Congratulations to the Vermillion 18u fastpitch softball team with two tournament championships and a record of 21-1 this season.
