Vermillion runs win streak to six, beating Alcester By by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Legion Post #1 baseball team, sparked by the good pitching performance of Kevin Bleil, assisted by Brett Mockler, had an easy victory over the Alcester Legion team, 16-2 as they ran their winning streak to six in a scheduled nine inning engagement there on Friday, June 21.
Bleil started and pitched four innings, giving up two runs on three hits to give him the win. Mockler shutdown the home team, registering four K�s, no hits and no runs as the Vermillion team put on a hitting/scoring binge to swamp Alcester.
Line scores: Vermillion � 16 runs, 20 hits, 2 errors; Alcester � 2 runs, 3 hits, 4 errors.
The offense was led by Ray O�Connor who went 5-5 batting, including a double and home run, scored twice and had three RBIs. Both Brett Mockler and Eric Rickord were 3-5, scoring three runs, and two RBIs, each. Danny Holoch scored two runs on 2-4 at bats, and three RBIs. B.J. Campbell had 2-5 at bats, scoring three runs. Andy Ofstehage scored two, knocked in two, batting 1-3. Jeff Gilbertson scored a run and an RBI.
The season record stood at 9-6 going into a tournament at South Sioux the weekend of June 22-23.
