Junior golfers attend Springfield GC open by Jim Prosser The Springfield Golf Course held its annual Junior Golf Tournament on Thursday, Aug. 1. There were over 40 participants and a dozen juniors from Vermillion were in attendance. They entered in four age groups and earned places in all of them.
For the boys 10 and under there was a five-hole match from the red tees. Aaron Steele placed first with a score of 30; while Eric Ustad finished third.
The boys 11-12 year-old age group played a nine-hole match using the red tees, with Jordan Boots recording 43 to place first; Alex Schaack, second; Brock Gauer, third; and Mikal Ustad, fourth.
The venue for the 15 and 16 year-olds was a two-round (18 hole) match for both boys and firls. Jackie Thomas placed second with a 111 in the girls� section. In the boys� division Christopher Moen was first (90) and Brad Schaack was second (91).
The 17 and 18 year-olds boys played 18-hole rounds. Vermillion juniors Rob Schaack (77) and Adam Brunick (85) were first and second. The girls� 17-18 age group played nine holes. Karrie Plate was the first place finisher in her section.
Every golfer�s play was affected by a strong northwest wind.
