Martinez signs with USD soccer

Martinez signs with USD soccer Candice Martinez of Aurora, CO, has signed a national letter of intent to attend The University of South Dakota and participate in the women's soccer program, according to an announcement July 23 by Jessica Maddox.

Martinez, a 5'4" goalkeeper, led Grandview High School to four state tournament appearances. Martinez was a two-time team MVP and was named to the first team all-state, all-conference, all-state game MVP, and first-team all-league during the 2000-01 season when Grandview advanced to the semi-finals of the state tournament. In addition, Martinez has been named twice to the second team all-league squad.

In club play, Martinez was

a standout on the Colorado Storm White U18 team, where she led them to fourth place at the USA Cup in 2001. The Colorado Storm White also finished second in the CSYSA Premier League, Nortel Cup and Storm Fireball in 2001.

Martinez played basketball for four years and softball

for three years. She was a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society, a peer counselor, a freshman mentor and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
