Moen new dean of USD's College of Arts and Sciences As a native of Sioux Falls, Dr. Matthew Moen is happy to be returning to his home state and joining The University of South Dakota in Vermillion as the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He will begin his duties on July 1.
Moen earned his high school diploma from Washington High School and his bachelor's degree in political science and history from Augustana College in Sioux Falls. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
Moen has 16 years of experience in various administrative positions, most recently at the University of Maine, where he served as a professor and the chair of the department of political science.
Moen has also served the American Political Science Association as the chair for the professional ethics committee.
"Dr. Moen's experience in administration made him an outstanding candidate for this position," said USD Acting President Donald C. Dahlin, "I'm happy to welcome him to the USD community."
Moen moved back to South Dakota with his wife, Donna, a registered nurse, and their four-year-old daughter, Erika. In his spare time, he enjoys running, hiking and golf.
