Repairs begun on arts center Mid Continental Corporation has begun tuck pointing repairs to the Washington Street Arts Center. The tuck pointing is necessary to prevent water damage that has already begun to occur even though there has been work over the years to improve the building.
Contributions for the tuck pointing have come from Clay County, the city of Vermillion, the Deadwood fund and Vermillion citizens. Additional funds are still required to help pay for the $34,000 project.
People wishing to help finance this project may send contributions to the Vermillion Area Arts Council, PO Box 484, Vermillion, SD 57069.
The Washington Street Arts Center, which is 96 years old, is on the National Registry for Historic Sites.
It soon will serve as the site of the Vermillion Area Arts Association's Bizarre Bazaar a rummage sale to help raise money to pay some of the center's expenses on Sept. 7. Art center personnel will soon be collecting items for the sale.
