Auditions for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat The Departments of Music and Theatre at The University of South Dakota will hold auditions for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, a rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, Sept. 19 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. and Sept. 20 from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Arena Theatre of the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts.
Auditions will include both singing and dancing. Those wishing to audition are asked to prepare 24 bars of a contemporary Broadway tune. Men who want to be considered for the Pharaoh should prepare a selection from Elvis Presley's repertoire. All singers should bring sheet music with them; an accompanist will be provided.
Vocal auditions are in five-minute increments on both evenings; large group dance auditions follow. All people who wish to audition are asked to sign up for specific time slots for both the vocal and dance auditions. Sign up sheets are posted on the callboard in the Theatre Department, located in the east hallway of the Center for Fine Arts.
A small chorus of young people, ages 9 to 13, is being considered for the production. Auditions for youth will be Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Wayne S. Knutson Theatre. Young people should sign up for a 9 a.m., 10 a.m., or 11 a.m. time slot on the theatre callboard as well. For auditions, young people will be taught part of one of the songs from Joseph and a short dance piece.
Callbacks will be held on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. in the Knutson Theatre. Performances are Nov. 20-24. Rehearsals will begin Oct. 6. For further information, contact Eric Hagen, director, at 677-5736 or 624-4268.
