Bovee and Heil star at Gayville Hall Oct. 5 Gayville Hall will present Minnesota old-time musicians Bob Bovee and Gail Heil at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, in Gayville, 10 miles east of Yankton.
Bovee is a Nebraska native who has been performing professionally since 1970. Heil, originally from St. Louis, has been a working musician since 1976.
The couple have performed as a duo since 1980, singing and playing American traditional music on fiddle, banjo, guitar and harmonica with vocal and instrumental styles typical of vintage country recordings from the 1920s and 1930s. It is rural music as once played in homes, at dances, in minstrel shows, and on country radio.
Along with a repertoire including dance tunes, ballads, cowboy songs, humorous and sentimental numbers, blues and rags, they spice their shows with stories, history and folklore. They have been featured at festivals and in other venues from coast to coast.
Gayville Hall is at 502 Washington St. in Gayville. Admission is $10 at the door or $12.50 for advance reserved seating. Call 605-267-2859.
